Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch is reportedly interested in signing Sampdoria’s Abdelhamid Sabiri.
The Lowdown: Wober first in
Victor Orta hasn’t wasted any time in bolstering the Leeds squad during the January transfer market, with Max Wober joining from RB Salzburg. The versatile defender has arrived at Elland Road in a deal worth around £10m and has signed a contract through to 2027.
It looks as if the Austrian won’t be the only signing this month, though, with attacking midfielder Sabiri another player of interest.
The Latest: Sabiri next?
Italian outlet Club Doria 46 relayed an update regarding Sabiri and Leeds in the last 48 hours. They claim that Marsch has not hidden his interest in the player, who could potentially arrive as a replacement for Mateusz Klich, who is ‘destined’ for the MLS.
The report adds that Sabiri could be available between €6m-€7m, following speculation last month suggesting that a Leeds approach has already been made.

The Verdict: Look elsewhere?
Sabiri is primarily an attacking midfielder who can also play in a deeper role or on the left-hand side. The Morocco international made five appearances during the World Cup, but it seems as if Leeds’ priorities after Wober should be further forward in attack.
Sabiri has limited experience as a centre-forward despite scoring 45 senior goals for club and country, so targeting a proven scorer due to Patrick Bamford’s struggles could be a smarter move.
