Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti hailed for doing what no-one else has, by Paul Robinson

Speaking to Football Insider, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has lavished praise on Carlo Ancelotti for inspiring a revival at Everton.

What did he say?

Since the former Napoli boss officially took over the reins at Goodison Park, Everton have won four out of their seven Premier League games, losing only to last season’s champions Manchester City at the Etihad.

And on Saturday afternoon, the Italian watched his side complete a thrilling comeback victory at Vicarage Road against Watford, coming from two goals down to win 3-2 thanks to an injury-time winner from Theo Walcott.

Robinson has paid tribute to what Ancelotti has managed to do in such a short space of time, and that one of the key thins he has done, is mesh together an expensively-assembled squad.

He said: “Mina’s two goals were brilliant. Then to get the goal at the end with ten men shows the fight and desire that Everton has got now. They did not have it at the beginning of the season.

“Everton have spent hundreds of millions on an abundance of talent but nobody has been able to put that talent into a formation that starts producing results. He seems to have done that and got the fight back in the players and the passion back in the shirt. Between now and the end of the season I think they will continue to improve.”

Revival

As Robinson points out, Everton have spent a tonne of money in recent years under the likes of Marco Silva and Ronald Koeman, amongst others. But they have had very little to show for it in terms of performances and results on the pitch, with the Toffees once again outside of the European places last season, finishing in eighth place in the Premier League.

Whilst it may be early to say Everton under Ancelotti could be headed for European football anytime soon, the Italian’s arrival at the club has no doubt reinvigorated things. After all, this is a manager with Champions League titles with both Milan and Real Madrid. That calibre of coach is naturally always going to draw eyes to Goodison Park now.

And his side’s recent results have shown he is already beginning to have a positive effect, and that can only mean good things for the Toffees in the future.

Meanwhile, this Everton player has received glowing endorsements from Steven Pressley.
